How to Improve Indoor Air Quality

air filter

Let’s talk about clean air. There are so many different air filtration products out there that it can be confusing as to which ones suit your home’s needs. We broke down the different filtration options currently available on the market to help figure out what’s best for your family’s home.

For starters, there are two main types of filtration: physical and biological. To achieve a truly complete air filtration system, your home needs a combination of both physical and biological filtration.

Physical Filtration

Physical filtration is what collects spores, dust, particulates, hair, pollen, and pet dander. These products range from standard air filters to in-room appliances and whole-house air cleaners.

Trane CleanEffects

The Trane CleanEffects Air Cleaner uses breakthrough air cleaning technology to remove up to an astounding 99.98% of airborne allergens from the air that passes through the filter. It catches particles as small as .1 micron, making it 8 times more effective than even the best HEPA room filters, and up to 100 times more effective than a standard 1-inch filter. Plus, it’s Certified Asthma & Allergy Friendly!

Trane Media Filters

Trane 5-inch media filters clean 100% of the air passing through, and are up to 15 times more effective than a disposable 1-inch filter. Additionally, they clean the air in your home without reducing air flow and are easy to replace.

Standard 1” Pleated Filters

These are the most common type of filters. Pleated filters are simply filters that have been folded to make them look like an accordion. This gives the filter more surface area to catch dirt, dust and some allergens, depending upon the type of filter used.

Biological Filtration

Biological filtration removes and prevents microbes such as viruses, bacteria, mold, mildew and allergens. These products use UV lighting to remove the biological particles.

UltraVation Trane UV Kit

Specifically designed for the Trane Hyperion Air Handler, this system keeps your system’s coil and pan free of biological growth while leaving the performance of your air handler unaffected.

APCO

The Fresh-Aire UV APCO is designed to help reduce airborne odor, toxic chemical vapors, germs and mold in your home. The APCO (Advanced PhotoCalytic Oxidation) system represents an entirely new type of air purifier. This combination of germicidal UV light and activated carbon cells inside APCO make it uniquely effective at reducing volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the air without producing any harmful ozone. VOCs cause odors and include toxic chemical vapors, such as formaldehyde and toluene.
