Before Your AC Visit: What to Have Ready

Whether your system is acting up or you're just due for maintenance, a few minutes of prep gets you a faster, more useful diagnosis.

Before we arrive

  • Clear access to the air handler and outdoor condenser. Move stored items, patio furniture, or landscaping gear blocking either unit. If the air handler is in a closet or attic, open the path to it.
  • Note the symptoms and when they happen. Short cycling, weak airflow, warm air, a strange noise or smell, a room that won't cool — and whether it shows up at a certain time of day or after the system's been running a while.
  • Know your thermostat. What it's set to, what the house actually reads, and whether anyone's changed a setting or schedule lately.
  • Remember when you last changed the filter. If you don't know, say so. It's one of the first things we check.
  • Secure pets. Outdoor units and open panels aren't a place for curious dogs or cats.

What happens during the visit

Your technician diagnoses the system and explains what's actually wrong in plain terms. You get options and pricing before any repair starts — nothing gets fixed without your sign-off.

Most repairs are done same-day, since the trucks carry common parts. Some repairs are flat-rate; most are billed for the time and parts actually used, so a quick job costs less than a long one. You'll get a heads-up as your appointment approaches, so you're not left guessing.

What to have handy

  • System age, if you know it — a rough estimate helps.
  • Warranty or maintenance records, if they're within reach. If we've serviced it before, we already have that history.
  • Preferred payment method. Financing is available through Wells Fargo if you'd rather spread out a larger repair or replacement.

We work on all makes and models, not just what we install. Air & Energy is a Trane Comfort Specialist — a dealer designation Trane awards the company — and we hold the state HVAC license, CAC1817161.

After the visit

If it was maintenance, you'll know what was checked and anything worth watching before the technician leaves, and it stays on file. If it was a repair, you'll know what was done and what it cost.

If something's not sitting right afterward, call the same number. A real person answers Monday through Friday, 8 to 5. Nights, weekends, and holidays route through an automated system built on our own scheduling records — it recognizes returning customers, and our on-call technicians respond through it.
