A whole-home surge protector mounts at your electrical panel and guards everything on those circuits: the AC, the refrigerator, the washer and dryer, the TV, the pool pump. What we install
- A whole-home surge protector at the panel. We install Ditek surge protective devices, UL 1449 listed Type 1 units. Depending on the model they're rated up to 100,000 amps per phase, and each has an indicator light so you can see it's working.
- AC surge protection. An HVAC-specific unit at your outdoor AC that protects it from voltage that runs too high or too low, not just spikes.
- A grounding check. A surge protector is only as good as the ground it sends the surge to. We check the home's grounding and upgrade it if it needs it.
Most installs take one visit. If your panel or grounding needs work first, we'll tell you before we start.
Why surge protection matters in Florida
Summer storms, lightning nearby and the power flickering off and on after an outage all send spikes down the line, and today's AC systems, appliances and electronics all run on circuit boards. We regularly get calls after a nearby lightning strike, when some of the outlets, lights or fans in a house have stopped working.
To be straight with you: no surge protector can stop a direct lightning strike. What a whole-home unit does is take the hit from the everyday surges that come in from storms and the grid, before they reach what's plugged in.
Surge protection and standby generators
If you're getting a whole-home standby generator, it's a good time to add surge protection, because we're already working at your panel and transfer switch. We often install a surge protector as part of a generator installation. See generator installation.

How it's priced
A whole-home surge protector is a one-time install you own, not a monthly rental. You'll know the price for the model you choose before we start, and estimates are free. Ditek backs each model with its own connected-equipment warranty; the coverage depends on the model, and we'll show you which one you're getting.
Every permit Florida requires is pulled, inspected and closed by us, never by you. Our workmanship is guaranteed for one year on everything we do. That's part of the Simply Better Promise.
After a storm or a strike
If part of the house lost power, or outlets, lights or the AC quit after a storm, call us. We offer emergency service on nights and weekends; outside office hours your call goes to our automated on-call line, and our own on-call technicians respond through it. Is a whole-house surge protector worth it?
For most Florida homes, yes. It protects the expensive things that run on circuit boards, like the AC, the refrigerator and the washer, from the surges that come in from storms and the grid.
Will it protect my house from lightning?
Not from a direct strike; nothing at the panel can. It handles the far more common surges from nearby strikes and the grid.
What's the difference between a whole-home surge protector and a power strip?
The whole-home unit stops surges coming in from outside at the panel, for every circuit. Plug-in strips protect only what's plugged into them. Keep using them for computers and TVs; the two work together.
Can you protect my AC?
Yes. Along with the unit at the panel, we install HVAC-specific protection at the outdoor unit that also guards against voltage running too high or too low.
How long does installation take?
Most installs take one visit. If the panel or grounding needs work first, we'll tell you up front.
Is there a monthly fee?
No. It's a one-time install, and you own the device.
